The Alabama Redeemer Act is the newly passed Alabama expungement law.
The Alabama Redeemer Act was signed into law on April 23, 2021, and becomes effective July 1, 2021. Under the new law, certain felony and misdemeanor convictions can now be expunged depending on the circumstances. This is a major shift from the prior expungement law, which was limited to criminal cases where the charges were dismissed, nol prossed, or where there was a not guilty verdict.

The new law makes significant changes in the Alabama expungement law. There are still restrictions on expungement of violent crimes or sex oriented crimes. But otherwise, depending on how old the conviction is, and where certain criteria are satisfied, a person may now petition the court to expunge a felony or misdemeanor conviction.
Because of the technical nature of the restrictions on the availability of expungement, we advise that you seek out qualified legal advice as to whether the new law would apply to your specific situation.
